On the night of September 8, 2023, a 6.8 magnitude earthquake struck Morocco, some 80 kilometres from the city of Marrakesh. To date, over 2,900 people have been killed and over 5,500 injured – about half critically. Hundreds of thousands of people have been impacted and many are in urgent need of shelter, food, drinking water, medicines and health services.

KBF CANADA is joining our Myriad alliance partners KBFUS and KBF Europe to raise emergency disaster relief and recovery funds.

Donations received by KBF CANADA will go to help communities in partnership with trusted on-the-ground ground organizations, including Banque Alimentaire, World Central Kitchen; and GlobalMedic. Contributions will be distributed to projects implemented by diligently selected and trusted organizations that are actively responding to the most pressing needs on the ground.

The rapidly evolving nature of the situation on the ground requires a responsive and agile response. We are committed to transparency and the integrity of our donors and will regularly update this page on how and where your donations are being used. All contributions are eligible for a donation receipt for tax purposes in Canada.

Banque Alimentaire (‘Food Bank’) – Morocco:
The Banque Alimentaire collects and redistributes food to needy populations through a network of over 200 associations spanning the entire country of Morocco.  By alleviating the ongoing challenge of food insecurity, these organizations are better positioned to fully devote their resources to their primary missions and help men and women maintain dignity and become actors in their community. The Banque Alimentaire provided essential support during the 2004 al Hoceima earthquake, the 2008-2009 floods and the Covid-19 pandemic. They are currently providing food, blankets, mattresses and clothing and have opened a blood donation clinic.

World Central Kitchen (WCK):
When disaster strikes, World Central Kitchen’s Relief Team mobilizes with the urgency of now to start cooking and serving meals to people in need. By partnering with organizations on the ground and activating a network of local restaurants, food trucks, or emergency kitchens, WCK serves comforting meals to survivors of disasters quickly and effectively and supports regional economies by purchasing local ingredients.
WCK has served more than 300 million nourishing meals around the world.
