Nearly 1/3 of Pakistan is under water. Devastating flash floods have already killed over 1,300 people and damaging or destroying close to 700,000 homes across the country.

As Sherry Rehman, Pakistan’s Climate Minister, told the AFP News Agency: “It’s all one big ocean, there’s no dry land to pump the water out. [It is a] crisis of unimaginable proportions.”

In Aisa, people are 15 times more likely to die from climate impacts. Antonio Guterres, Secretary General of the United Nations, has said that Pakistan is facing a ‘monsoon on steroids’ and has urged the world to come to that country’s aid. “Let’s stop sleepwalking towards the destruction of our planet by climate change,” he said. “Today, it’s Pakistan. Tomorrow, it could be your country.”

It is estimated that at least 1/3 of the victims are children and that over 33 million Pakistanis (one in seven) have been impacted by the flooding. Crops have been wiped out, small businesses destroyed, schools washed away – this all in the midst of a severe economic crisis gripping the country.

YOU CAN HELP

KBF CANADA is working with trusted non-profit organizations in Canada, Pakistan and the United States to implement projects and respond to the flooding catastrophe as efficiently and effectively as possible.

The evolving nature of the situation on the ground requires a responsive and agile response. To this end, the organizations that KBF CANADA is working with are actively responding to the most pressing needs on the ground across the country (in the provinces of Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab and Sindh). KBF CANADA is committed to transparency and the integrity of our donors and will update this page on how and where your donations are being used. All contributions are eligible for a donation receipt for tax purposes in Canada.
