Myriad, the new alliance for borderless giving

14 September 2021

Myriad Canada  is delighted to announce the launch of Myriad, the Alliance for Borderless Giving. Myriad is a partnership between Myriad Canada, the King Baudouin Foundation, KBF US, Give2Asia and their global affiliates.

The King Baudouin Foundation ‘family’, along with Give2Asia (a U.S. public charity with affiliates in Hong Kong and Australia), has launched the Myriad Alliance for Borderless Giving to encourage donations for charitable projects worldwide.

Myriad unlocks the potential of charitable giving and international solidarity from anywhere to anywhere, allowing donors across Canada and the United States, Europe, Africa and the Aisa-Pacific region to support charitable projects in nearly 100 countries while benefitting from controls, very low management fees and tax benefits in their home country. Myriad was developed in response to the substantial obstacles faced by individuals and corporations who wish to support international philanthropic causes, in spite of increasing globalization in other areas of the world economy.

“Moving money around the world gets easier every day – until you try giving it for charitable projects,” said Myriad Canada Treasurer and KBF BRUSSELS Managing Director Luc Tayart de Borms. “We want to make it effortless for donors to support good causes anywhere in the world.”

The alliance, which will be adding partners in other regions, also seeks to nurture the growth of truly global philanthropic movements and to help individuals, families and corporations engage with each other globally – thanks to the expertise, the networks, and the cross-border experience of  the King Baudouin Foundation and Give2Asia in Europe, Africa, Asia and North America.

Through Myriad, the Foundation is building on two decades of pioneering work with Transnational Giving Europe (TGE). It has long been difficult for cross-border donations to conform to the controls and oversight required of international projects, as well as to obtain fiscal advantages. In fact, new trends, including post-9/11 anti-terrorism and anti-money laundering controls, have added even more obstacles and legal complexities to an already arduous process.

Establishing a donor-advised fund at Myriad Canada allows individuals, corporations, and corporate foundations to make donations to their favourite charitable projects across the four continents. These funds can also accommodate legacy bequests for the benefit of communities overseas, or donations of artworks to be exhibited in foreign museums.

Corporate donors can also leverage Myriad’s trusted network of local experts through the Corporate Plus service to identify charitable projects and build rewarding relationships across the globe. A Disaster Response Fund offers a tool to engage employees in many countries to mobilise giving across multinational companies to benefit local communities in need.

The Myriad Alliance will make it easier for Myriad Canada to implement and oversee charitable projects with non profit partners all over the world.

The founding members of the Myriad alliance are:

  • Myriad Canada: A charitable organisation promoting, enabling and implementing charitable projects everywhere in the world
